Biography

Joe Abbati lectures on Music Media and Industry and serves as Studio Director of Contemporary Media Performance at the FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC. With dozens of published titles to his credit, Mr. Abbati has worked in roles of composer, sound designer, programmer, audio director and producer. 

Mr. Abbati is an expert in digital audio/video recording and postproduction, MIDI/synthesis technology, software and interactive media. He has been teaching creative production courses in the Music Engineering program since 1998. Being active in electronic music for more than 20 years, he shares his experience in the role of Studio Director for the Contemporary Media Performance studio created in 2012. Mr. Abbati works with private students and small ensembles exploring the fusion of traditional musical performance and technological concepts with various styles of electronic music production.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Abbati stays active in scoring/sound design for games, electronic music production/performance and interactive media installation art. Recent projects include: Musical Score and Sound Design for “State of Chaos” from Shiver Games, a live electronic music performance at the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival and installation art for 2 Man Show at Flowerbox Gallery in Little Haiti, Miami.

Mr. Abbati has a Bachelor of Music and Master of Fine Arts degrees and has spent his professional and academic career squaring the circle of arts and technology. An alumnus of the Music Engineering program at FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC, he spent his early career in the software/game development industry.
