Gina Garrett, M.S.W., LCSW

Prior to joining the University of Miami Counseling Center, Ms. Garrett worked as a therapist for eight years in outpatient community mental health clinic settings. She has twenty years of experience working with children, couples and families in the mental health field in a variety of settings. She is a board approved clinical supervisor in Florida and Minnesota. As a therapist, Ms. Garrett works with students through a developmental and systems framework, taking into consideration the needs of the person in their environment. Her therapeutic style is collaborative and strengths based, focusing on the unique goals of each client. She has training in DBT, TF-CBT, Family Systems, and Mind-Body skills techniques. Ms. Garrett’s areas of professional interest include working with grief/loss, trauma history, family relationships, clinical consultation, young adult identity development, first generation college students, and the intersection of mental health and chronic health concerns. Ms. Garrett earned her Master of Clinical Social Work Degree from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and her B.S. in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota. In addition, she completed two years of Post Masters clinical training in individual and group psychotherapy prior to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
