About

Jonathan P. West is chair and professor of political science and director of the MPA program at the University of Miami.  His research interests include human resource management, productivity, local government, and public service ethics. Professor West has published nine books and over 100 articles and book chapters.  His most recent books are co-authored with Bowman, Public Service Ethics: Individual and Institutional Responsibilities (CQ Press, 2015), Berman, Bowman, and Van Wart, Human Resource Management:  Paradoxes, Processes and Problems (5th ed., Sage, 2016) and with Bowman and Beck, Achieving Competencies in Public Service: The Professional Edge (2nd ed., M.E. Sharpe, 2010), with Bowman, eds. American Public Service: Radical Reform and the Merit System (Taylor & Francis, 2007), with Berman, eds., The Ethics Edge (ICMA, 2006) and with Sussman and Daynes, American Politics and the Environment (2002, 2nd ed., 2016). For 16 years he has been the Managing Editor of Public Integrity, a journal co-sponsored by the American Society for Public Administration, the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws, the International City/County Management Association, the Council of State Governments and the Ethics Resource Center. He taught previously at the University of Houston and University of Arizona and served as a management analyst in the U. S. Surgeon General's Office, Department of the Army, Washington, D. C.
