Michelle M Alvarez

Michelle Alvarez is executive director of the Intensive Language Institute (ILI) and the Intensive English Program (IEP) at the Division of Continuing & International Education. Alvarez has over 30 years of experience in language teaching and administration. After completing her MA in linguistics with a concentration in teaching english as a second language she lived and worked in Venezuela for three years. Upon returning to the United States she began working at the University of Miami.
Alvarez has been a teacher, administrator and director at the ILI and IEP which has provided her with the opportunity to teach at all levels of the IEP and develop and oversee the curriculum, in addition to managing the administrative services. Under her leadership, the IEP has maintained the highest level of national accreditation by the Commission on English Language Accreditation since 2001.
Ms. Alvarez has served as chair of the Florida Consortium of Intensive English Programs (FIEC) and also as president of the University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP).
