Biography
Octavio V. Martinez Ph.D., ABMM is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology. He is currently the Medical Director of the Microbiology Laboratory at Jackson Health Systems. He also helps oversee the University of Miami Microbiology Laboratory at Mailman Center. He completed his doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami in 1977. He was Board certified in Medical Microbiology by The American Society of Microbiology in 1980. He directed the Microbiology Laboratory at the University of Miami Tissue Bank and the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation specializing in the microbiology of organ retrieval and tissue procurement for transplantation. In 2015 he transitioned to the Department of Pathology for the position he currently occupies. His professional interests include all aspects of clinical microbiology diagnostics and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. He is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, American Society of Clinical Pathology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. -
