Ambassador Trivelli is the Ambassador-in-Residence and Visiting Professor for the MAIA Program. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Williams College and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies. He has also a Master of Arts degree in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

A career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor, Ambassador Trivelli joined the Foreign Service in 1978, retiring in 2011. His most recent posting was as Civilian Deputy to the Commander and Foreign Policy Advisor, for United States Southern Command. Previously, Ambassador Trivelli served in Ecuador, Panama, El Salvador, Mexico and Nicaragua. He was Director of the Office of Central American Affairs in the Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemispheric Affairs in Washington, DC as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua from 2005 to 2008.
