About
Paul R. Shockley received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Affectionately known as “Doc Shock,” Paul specializes in aesthetics, the history of ideas, ethics, and philosophy of religion. Using a multidisciplinary approach, he studies the transactional experiences between theology, the arts, religious contexts, and sociological constructions. He is also an avid student of art history, Holocaust studies, environmental philosophy, hermeneutics, systematic theology, and all things related to C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. His publications include Evangelical America: An Encyclopedia of Contemporary Religious Culture (co-authored with Dr. Timothy Demy; ABC-CLIO, 2017), Worship as Experience: An Inquiry into John Dewey’s Aesthetics, the Community, and the Local Church (Stephen F. Austin University Press, 2018), and Thinking with Excellence: Navigating the College Experience and Beyond (co-authored with Dr. Raul F. Prezas; Two Creeks Publishing Group, 2019). He is an active member of the American Society for Aesthetics and currently serves on their diversity committee. Additionally, Paul frequently leads varied tours to Israel and Jordan, exploring their archeological, cultural, geographical, historical, and religious sites.
