Sam Blankenship studies Greek antiquity as situated in broader Mediterranean and ancient Near Eastern worlds. Her research engages primarily with ancient historiography, and especially historiographical texts (such as Achaemenid Persian royal inscriptions) written before the time of the "first" historians, Hecataeus and Herodotus. Her current project expands on her doctoral dissertation (PhD 2021, Harvard University) to elucidate shared aspects of Greek, Achaemenid Persian, and Jewish technologies for representing the past, particularly in the context of empire. She is interested in cultural and intellectual exchange between Greeks and non-Greeks more generally.
