Biography

Keiko Fernandez teaches Ballet, Beginning Modern Dance, and Stretching and Bodywork at the Dance Department at the FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC, She joined the faculty as an adjunct professor in 2012.

After returning to Miami following her formal studies at Columbia University, Professor Fernandez part of the Columbia Ballet Collaborative where she taught ballet classes and participated in performances. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and certified Pilates instructor as well. She incorporates Yoga and Pilates into her Stretching and Bodywork classes, and in her free time, she works as a physical therapist for the touring Broadway productions that perform at the Arsht Center and Broward Center for Performing Arts.

Professor Fernandez trained extensively in classical ballet while growing up in Miami, studying with Dagmar Moradillos and Elizabeth Nuevo, as well as with the Miami City Ballet School. In addition, she attended summer training programs at American Ballet Theater and Joffrey Ballet School in New York City for four years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami, with a minor in dance through the FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC Dance Department under the direction of Kathyanne Guy. She was awarded her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University after initially intending to work as a physical therapist for the performing arts. While studying at Columbia University, she was part of the Columbia Ballet Collaborative, where she taught ballet classes and participated in performances.
