About

Geoff Koch

Geoff joined the IRSA team in March of 2022 and prides himself on being a cross-functional analytics thought leader with a focus on people, processes, and data. He is passionate about enabling professionals to thrive with a little assistance from the data they are exposed to. Geoff started his career at a small law firm as a business analyst where he advanced the company’s first comprehensive collections measurement mechanisms while automating many of the legal processes within his department. Prior to joining the U, he served as Director, Research Analysis with American Public Education, Inc. where he helped develop the company’s common analytics portal to provide a “single source of truth” while establishing an analytics strategy to propel the company’s Workforce Learning Solutions division toward consistent annual double-digit enrollment growth. He also led the establishment of an enterprise data literacy training program focused on empowering staff with the knowledge of data literacy, data governance principles, and data analysis fundamentals. Geoff has presented at multiple conferences over the years, including the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), the Southern Association for Institutional Research (SAIR), IData’s customer conferences, and Analytics Day at Appalachian State. Most recently, he presented Measuring Online Faculty Forum Discussions at Scale where he shared his custom approach to measuring the writing and interaction quality of faculty with students in an online setting and how these interactions can impact retention.

Geoff currently resides in Charles Town, West Virginia (about an hour outside of Washington, D.C.) with his wife, two children, and two dogs. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Administration from Shepherd University and his MBA with a concentration in Analytics from American Public University. Currently, he serves on the board for the South Jefferson Public Library where he helps guide the strategic operations of the "kid friendly" library. Geoff is the past President of the West Virginia Students' Alliance (WVSA), a student organization for the American Public University System that won the institution’s 2021 Legacy Award. Geoff has also participated in Jefferson High School's Cougar Care program as a mentor to at-risk freshmen. He is involved with youth sports in his area, having coached his son's baseball team for the past three years. Lastly, Geoff established the Pick Your Passion (PYP) group of analysts from multiple universities on the east coast to enhance networking and analytics skill development.
