About

Nicole Leeper Piquero is a Professor of Sociology and Associate Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Miami. She received her Ph.D. as well as her M.A. and B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland. Professor Piquero has published over 95 peer-reviewed articles in the areas of white-collar/corporate crime, criminological theory, and criminal justice policy. Her work has been cited over 6500 times (h-index = 45). Prior to her arrival at the University of Miami in August 2020, she was the Robert Holmes Professor of Criminology at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she also served as an Associate Vice President for Research Development (2019-2020), Program Head in Criminology and Criminal Justice (2018-2019), Associate Provost (July 2015-2018), and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (2012-June 2015). Prior to UT Dallas, she was on the faculties of Florida State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, John Jay College of Criminal Justice/City University of New York, University of Florida, and Northeastern University. Professor Piquero currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of White-Collar and Corporate Crime and served as Editor for the Journal of Drug Issues (2009-2012).  In addition, she has extensive service with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) Executive Board where she has served as President (2017-2018), First Vice-President (2016-2017), Second Vice-President (2015-2016), Trustee-at-Large (2010-2013), and Secretary (2008-2010). Professor Piquero is past recipient of the ACJS Mentor Award (2020), the National White Collar Crime Research Consortium Outstanding Publication Award (2011) and Young Scholars Award (2008), as well as the University of Florida’s College of Arts and Sciences Teacher of the Year Award (2005-2006).
