Jennifer B. Kahn
Asst. Professor

Jennifer Kahn Thorne is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning. As a Learning Scientist, her research examines interdisciplinary, technology-rich activities to support youth and community learning. Her design-based research program focuses on how individuals learn to build models and tell stories with large, complex data and data visualization technologies. Her research investigates how developing these practices, along with access to open data and interactive digital visualization tools, can encourage youth and families to engage critically with data and to draw relationships across scales—between their personal, local experiences and larger social, economic, scientific, and historical issues. Dr. Kahn teaches classes on human learning, the design of learning environments in and out of school, and qualitative research methods for studying learning across and within social contexts. She is faculty in the Applied Learning Sciences and STEM graduate programs.
