About
I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami.  I have a broad background in developmental psychology, with specific expertise on the identification of early risk factors and the tracking of outcomes for children with developmental disabilities. I am the principal investigator on the Children’s Registry and Information System (CHRIS) project (funded by the Florida Department of Education) which is a statewide registry of young children who have disabilities that may affect their future school performance and children who may be at-risk of developing such disabilities.  My research focuses mainly on the identification of early risk factors for children with disabilities and the tracking of outcomes of preschool children with disabilities. This research is conducted using data sets created by integrating statewide databases (e.g., birth records, preschool disability records, public school records, lead exposure records, and birth defect registry records). The use of developmental epidemiological methodology allows for the identification of both individual-level and population-level risk which can inform early identification, prevention, and service provision efforts.  Additional research focuses on reproductive health and prenatal development, particularly on awareness of health and lifestyle factors that can influence reproductive health and pregnancy.

Courses

I created an innovative undergraduate course to educate young adults in reproductive health and prenatal development (PSY432:  Prenatal Development).  I also teach courses in Child and Adolescent Development (PSY230), Science and Pseudoscience (PSY275), and Psychology of Social and Emotional Development (PSY431).
