Allannah Kristin Karas

Allannah Karas taught and directed a Greek and Roman Studies program at Valparaiso University in Indiana before arriving to Miami in 2021. With the support of an American Council for Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowship, she spent 2021-2022 as Visiting Scholar at Columbia University. Her research centers on the presence and effects of “agreeable compulsion” (in Greek, peithō) within ancient Greek oratory and rhetoric. She also writes on reconfigurations of classical myth as displayed in the work of Black American artists. She received her Ph.D. in Classics from The Graduate School and University Center, CUNY.
