About Ellen Kapsalis

As Director of Compliance for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Embryonic Stem Cell Research Oversight committee (ESCRO) under the direction of the Vice Provost for Research + Scholarship, Ellen Kapsalis provides oversight and leadership to University's research program in these areas.  She ensures the IACUC, IBC and ESCRO programs maintain compliance with PHS Policy, the Animal Welfare Act & Regulations, AAALAC International accreditation and all federal requirements. She serves as a regulatory compliance expert in consultation with the Chairs of the respective committees, Attending Veterinarian, and Institutional Official to provide institutional and regulatory guidance. Ellen joined the University in 1998 and previously served as an animal Behaviorist for a large primate colony at UM. She earned a Master’s degree in Biological Anthropology  from New York University and her Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology from SUNY at Buffalo.
