John M. Barkett has been a partner with Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP. since 2000. Prior to that, Barkett spent 25 years as a litigator with two other firms. In that time, Barkett served many different roles, including commercial litigator, independent investigator, environmental litigator, environmental counselor, arbitrator and mediator. Barkett has been named to the National Law Journal's Best Lawyer's in America list since 2005. He has received numerous awards and has given speeches on topics such as e-discovery, e-disclosure, environmental law, terrorism, ethics and arbitration. In addition, Barkett has been published more than 35 times, most recently on his work in e-discovery. Barkett received his J.D. from Yale University in 1975 after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law, Barkett has also served as a pro bono hearing officer for the Dade County School Board for 18 years. Barkett teaches Electronic Discovery, a workshop that focuses on e-discovery rules and cases as well as Environmental Litigation and Policy.
