Dr. Juan M. Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor of Clinical and Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. His work with the University of Miami began in 2011 as adjunct faculty teaching clinical courses. Dr. Gonzalez obtained his ADN from Miami Dade College in 2006 and later earned his BSN, MSN specializing in Adult Gerontology Acute Care, and DNP degrees from Barry University from 2007 to 2013. His DNP capstone project focused on the implementation of a smoking cessation program in an emergency department assisting nurses with smoking cessation teaching and referrals. In 2015 Dr. Gonzalez completed a post master FNP certificate at the University of Miami. In 2006, Dr. Gonzalez began his clinical work in the emergency department at South Miami Hospital where he was awarded Unit Nurse of the Year in 2011. That same year he was also voted clinical faculty of the year and, in 2013, was named professor of the year at the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies. He is board certified in emergency nursing (CEN), basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS). Currently, Dr. Gonzalez teaches Nursing Pharmacology and Role Transition in addition to clinical classes for the undergraduate BSN program. His areas of interest in research are smoking cessation, chronic pulmonary problems, and chronic disease hospital recidivism.
